SUMMARY: This fifth annual 4-day “Writing Workshop & Retreat” is geared for educators, scholars, leaders, and advocates who seek to broaden and strengthen their toolkit for writing and publishing on education in both academic and public venues and in ways that advance justice and movement building. Participants will learn writing strategies from award-winning scholar Dr. Kevin Kumashiro, as well as his tips for writing for the media, academic journals, and books. Participants will have the option to join a small-group discussion on their short drafts or action plans. When not in sessions, participants will have ample time to sit in picturesque settings to write.
SORRY, NO VIRTUAL OPTION: At this time, we are not offering an option to join virtually.
COVID PROTOCOLS: All participants must provide evidence of being fully vaccinated and boosted prior to arrival. Wearing masks will be required indoors and recommended outdoors. Any participant who tests positive for, develops symptoms of, or suspects infection by COVID-19 within 14 days prior to the retreat must cancel registration and will be fully refunded. If the Workshop organizer or the retreat center cancels the Workshop because of the pandemic, all participants will be fully refunded.

Free parking onsite. Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. Information about the retreat center, including tips for packing, will be provided upon registration.
TRANSPORTATION: Registrants are responsible for their own transportation. The Workshop organizer may be able to help to arrange carpooling from the airport as a courtesy and without bearing liability or expense. Tips for travel, including carpooling, will be provided upon registration.
LODGING OPTIONS: Workshop participants can choose to commute or to stay in single- or double-occupancy rooms at the retreat center. All rooms have shared bathrooms. Bedding, towels, and basic toiletries are provided. Lodging is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Note: If you choose a double-occupancy room, preferred roommates may be identified in the “Additional Information” box of the Registration Form; otherwise, roommates of the same gender will be assigned. For those who snore or in other ways can be disruptive to a roommate, please select the single-occupancy room as a courtesy. :)
